Many of us are stuck at home either on lockdown or self isolating at the moment and living in our hottest 'loungewear' (aka comfort gear to the max). And with our favourite stores closed we can't spoil ourselves with a new pair of shoes right now (sigh).
So... I figured seeing as you are scrolling endlessly in the wide world online seeking connection, inspiration and joy, I thought I'd share a little bit of insight for you to enjoy and hopefully this will give you something to look forward to when we come out the other side ready to slay the day 😊
If you are someone that likes to keep up with what’s hot and be trendy or maybe you just like to know what's out there even though you'll still stick to your good old faithful's …
Here are some of the major footwear trends we are seeing for Winter 2020 which you may like to try and incorporate into your wardrobe.
Sneakers – Yes, athleisure is still a thing, and this makes me happy! Sneakers with everything… Perfect for the everyday women. Go for something slightly more high-tech this season with Velcro detail, thicker and cushioned soles (comfort is key!), and mixed materials.
Chain-detail – Seeing that chunky chains are a major accessories trend for 2020, it's no wonder they've moved onto our feet too. Found on sandals, loafers, and booties alike… across the toe, up the vamp or around the back. This detail adds an edgy element of sparkle to your seasonal favourites.
Square Toes – Boxy styles are top of the list this season. We saw square-toe sandals all over in Summer 2019 and the trend has now evolved into boots, loafers, and Mary-janes. Not so great if you're trying to elongate your legs and look taller. But fashion trends don't follow the rules do they!?
Mary-Janes – Block Heels, Kitten heel, Square Toe, Velvet, Animal Print, Rhinestone or Chain details, paired with socks or stockings... I'm sure you had a classic, pretty pair of T-strap pumps when you were younger which you thought you would not see again… Well alas. As fashion does, these have made quite the come-back, with a twist. Try something new here if you’re brave enough.
Chunky Soles – We are still seeing this trend standing the test of time. 90’s grunge is not going anywhere. The ‘lug sole’… A trend that sure is not for everyone but if it is for you, you’ll be comfortable, cool and a suited style-inspo for many. A classic pair of Dr. Martens would be my pick in this category. Pair with a midi dress or casual pair of ripped boyfriend jeans and you’re good to go!
Pointy Over-The-Knee Boots – Not one that you’ll likely catch me wearing but definitely ‘THE’ shoe of W’20… opt for rich colours like burgundy, animal print or patent leather. Wear with a dress and a coat. Or pair with super skinny jeans, a crisp shirt and cropped jacket. These boots are sure to make a style statement.
Colourful Hues - Step outside of your neutral comfort zone of black, black, and some more black (or brown too). Try a combat in a fresh shade of orange, a stiletto in a highlighter hue or a leather bootie in a bold shade of blue. A great way of adding some much-needed colour to your usual dull winter wardrobe. But, please choose wisely ladies! Anything more than 2-3 colours in your entire outfit could be taking it a tad too far.
Distinct Heels – Time to re-think the heels of your daily favs. Futuristic shapes, alternative patterns or prints and embellishments. Go for it. Have some fun. Stand to be different. Be bold!
Tie-Up – Tie and Lace-up boots are what we are talking about here. Any silhouette and any height, if it ties, its in!
And there you are girls...
A few highlights to tantalize your taste buds of what's to come in the world of shoes, shoes, shoes. My favourite world to be in!
If you’re on a budget or you just prefer more classic pieces that are made to last (The buzz word out there being ‘sustainable’), my advice would be, don’t spend a fortune on anything that is completely out of your norm or too fashion-forward unless you're up for it…
Fashion pieces may not be around for seasons and season to come and they’ll just end up gathering dust at the bottom of your wardrobe.
If you cannot tell the difference between a fad and fashion, then rather stick to quality staples, and add some excitement in more affordable accessories.
Good luck holding yourself back!
